*CAP Cases are any Initial Continuing (above 50%) and Promotion cases. All other cases are Dean’s Finals.
EXTENSIONS FOR UNIT 18 CAP REVIEW CASES MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE DUE TO SUMMER RECESS. (CAP is off mid-July to mid-September.)
Dean’s Finals cases may be submitted 4-5 months before the effective date.
**Faculty may not be physically present mid-June to September. Therefore, please plan accordingly.
Reminders
15th Quarter Notice (Excellence Review)
Upon completion of 15 quarters, the department should initiate the Excellence Review process. The department and candidate need to proceed with the evaluation of teaching excellence for consideration of appointment to Continuing Lecturer.
Statement of Interest (SOI)
Article 7a.J.1 – Pre-6 Unit 18 Faculty with current appointment who submit a SOI will be considered for reappointment prior to the consideration of external applicants. SOI must be submitted by Pre-6 Unit 18 Faculty to the Department Chair by the deadlines below.

Assessment Action
Article 7a.J.3 – Reappointment from the initial appointment to a 2-year reappointment is based on an assessment made by the Department Chair. The Assessment Action should be made on the basis of demonstrated competence in the field, teaching ability, academic responsibility, and other assigned duties.
If given a positive outcome for the Assessment Action, Pre-6 Unit 18 Faculty should then receive a 2-year reappointment.
Teaching Effectiveness Review – Conduct no later than June 1 of the last year of the reappointment
Article 7a.F – Unit 18 Faculty with a 2 or 3-year reappointment shall undergo a Pre-Six Academic Review except when there is a scheduled Excellence Review during the appointment.
For Those Under the Transition Plan:
Those with at least 9 quarters shall be evaluated between July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.
Those with less than 9 quarters shall be evaluated between July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.
