TEMPORARY ACADEMIC FACULTY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  1. Acting Professor Series

Acting Assistant Professor Appointments:  In the College, if a candidate has not yet completed all formal degree requirements for the Ph.D., the appointment must be proposed as Acting Assistant Professor.  This appointment is for one year only but can be renewed up to a second year.  When the degree is conferred, the department must send the College a copy of the certificate of completion of the Ph.D.  The individual can then be transferred without further review to the regular Assistant Professor title, with no change in step or salary.  The change in title would be effective as of the quarter following the date of the official notice of formal completion of the Ph.D (7/1, 11/1, or 3/1).  Follow Assistant Professor Appointment guidelines for search procedures, dossier contents, etc.

Acting Associate Professor and Acting Professor Appointments:  In the College, these titles are normally considered conditional titles pending approval of permanent residency or an appropriate visa.  These appointments are for 1 or 2 years and can be renewed up to a maximum of 4 years.  Transfer to the regular Associate Professor or Professor title with no change in step or salary is, normally, without further review.  Follow Associate Professor and Professor Appointment guidelines for search procedures, dossier contents, etc.

Joint and split appointments are NOT applicable to the Acting Professor Series.
