UCLA College of Letters and Science Writing II Requirements
The Writing II requirement is satisfied by selecting a course from a list of courses approved by the College Faculty Executive Committee. Writing II courses are listed in the Schedule of Classes at www.registrar.ucla.edu/soc/writing.htm and are available in College Academic Counseling. Most Writing II courses may also be applied toward general education (GE) requirements or toward some preparation for the major. It is strongly recommended that the requirement be fulfilled within the first six quarters of enrollment.
Transfer students with 90 or more units who have completed the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum will have satisfied the Writing I and Writing II requirements. No transfer student is admitted to the College without completing, with a grade of C or better (a grade of C- is not acceptable), a college-level writing course that the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools accepts as equivalent to English Composition 3.
***GE Seminar/Writing II requirement***
If you entered UCLA as a Freshman in Fall 2002 or later, or you entered as a Junior Transfer without Community College IGETC certification in 2004 Fall or later, you are required to complete the GE Foundation Requirements. Some of the GE Foundation courses have been designated as GE Seminar or GE Writing II classes. One of the ten GE courses students in the UCLA College are required to take must be either a GE approved Seminar course or a GE approved Writing II course. If you have taken all 10 GE courses, and none of those classes was a GE approved Seminar or GE approved Writing II course, you will need to take an extra class to meet the GE Seminar/Writing II requirement.
