youth to college initiative
About Youth to
College
The Youth to College (or “Y2C”) Initiative is funded by Learn and Serve
through California Campus Compact. Y2C is a
statewide program to help underrepresented youth become college-ready and to increase their
college-going rates. The
University of San Diego, Fresno State, and Humboldt State are also participating to provide
similar services and programs in
their regions.
The Center will be collaborating with UCLA’s Vice Provost Initiative
for Pre-College (VIP) Scholars Program and provide peer
mentors to high school students in LAUSD and Pasadena Unified School District.
Y2C Objectives
●Mentoring high
school students for college
●1 service learning workshop for faculty with 3 other
college campuses in the LA region
●Involve college and K-12 students in joint service
learning projects. Service projects will
take place through clubs at
local high schools following Buddy Days
●Series of
service events related to the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service
●Letters to elected officials on Y2C activities and
accomplishments
