Initiation Ceremony
The Phi Beta Kappa Spring Initiation Ceremony is an annual event that honors the inauguration of newly elected Phi Beta Kappa members of the academic year. Election criteria and schedule are listed here.
Those elected in the Spring will receive invitation via MyUCLA in Mid-May.
Student Check-in
Students should arrive in their graduation attire and with their admission ticket between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm at a TBA location to check-in and queue up for the Processional. At promptly 4:30 pm students will enter Dickson Court in a Processional to the accompaniment of the Cabernet String Quartet. Students will seat themselves as directed.
Ceremony
After opening remarks from the Eta Chapter President of Phi Beta Kappa at UCLA, the Honorary Phi Beta Kappa Initiate will be inducted and will give a short speech. New members will be inducted into the Society by learning a Phi Bete tradition.
After the induction, each student will come to the stage to announce his/her name and future plans (graduate school, career, volunteer, extended vacation, etc). The entire ceremony should last approximately 1½ hours, from 4:30 until approximately 6 pm.
Reception
A reception in Dickson Court will immediately follow the ceremony. Refreshments, dessert, and coffee will be served.
The 2012-2013 Eta Chapter officers will also be present at the ceremony and will look forward to meeting you.
