Initiation Ceremony
The Phi Beta Kappa Spring Initiation Ceremony is an annual event that honors the inauguration of newly elected Phi Beta Kappa members of the academic year. Election criteria and schedule are listed here.
Invitations to the initiation ceremony will be sent by mail for those elected in the Fall and Winter elections. Those elected in the Spring will receive invitation via MyUCLA in Mid-May.

Place: Dickson Court North (Perloff Quad)
The ceremony:
Students should arrive with their admission ticket at Dodd 147 between 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm to check-in and queue up for the Processional. At promptly 5:00 pm students will enter Dickson Court in a Processional to the accompaniment of the Versailles String Quartet. Students will seat themselves as directed.
After opening remarks from Professor Herb Kaesz, the Eta Chapter President of Phi Beta Kappa at UCLA, the Honorary Phi Beta Kappa Initiate will be inducted and give a short speech. New members will be inducted into the Society by learning a Phi Bete tradition.
After the induction, each student will come to the stage to announce his/her name and future plans (graduate school, career, volunteer, extended vacation, etc). The entire ceremony should last approximately 1½ hours. Business/professional dress is requested.
The reception:
A reception in Dickson Court will immediately follow the ceremony. Dessert and coffee will be served.
