Writing II Credit and the Clusters

Cluster students must complete English Comp 3 (or the equivalent) by the end of their first year in order to receive Writing II credit through the cluster. Check your Degree Progress Report (DPR) to confirm that you are eligible to take English Comp 3 (Writing I) and follow the steps below if you have not yet satisfied the Writing I requirement. Students who fail to complete English Comp 3 by the end of the spring term will not receive Writing II credit through their cluster work.

SPRING 2012 ENROLLMENT

  1. Check your Degree Progress Report (DPR) to confirm that you are eligible to take English Comp 3 (Writing I). You must have already satisfied any ESL or Entry Level Writing Requirements.
  2. Send an email request to wpinfo@humnet.ucla.edu no earlier than 12 a.m. Monday, February 13th. (Note: emails received before this date will not be considered.) Spaces are assigned first come first served.
  3. Include your name, email and University ID (no dashes or spaces) and list your top six choices for sections in order of preference. Use the lecture numbers, e.g. 11, 3, 26.
  4. You will receive an email response by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17th.
  5. If you did not get a reserved spot in a section, you will receive additional instructions either to send more choices or to use your first-pass units and enroll yourself.
  6. If a spot has been reserved for you, DO NOT enroll in the section yourself; the Writing Programs office will enroll you during second pass (before Thursday, March 1st ). Note: you may use all of your first-pass units to enroll in other courses.
  7. If you want to enroll in a lecture other than the one saved for you, you will keep the section in which you enroll.  Please email wpinfo@humnet.ucla.edu to say that you have chosen a lecture different from the one saved for you.
  8. You must leave enough room in your units to add 5 more units.  If the addition of Eng Comp 3 (5 units) will put you over your unit maximum, the system will not let you enroll and you will lose your saved space in Eng Comp 3.
