Fiction: If my roommate dies, UCLA will feel sorry for me and give me all A's for the quarter. Fact: As tragic as this may be, though you do have many options, getting automatic A's is not one of them. Grades issued at UCLA are only those you earn. Fiction: If I have three or more final exams on the same day, one of my instructors has to let me reschedule. Fact: The final exam schedule is posted at the time of your enrollment- no instuctor has to reschedule or change an exam time. Fiction: If I don't take a final exam in a class, they have to let me drop it. Fact: The drop deadline for non-impacted courses is friday of week 10, and for impacted courses friday of week 2. Drops after these deadlines are rarely granted. However, some drops may be approved retroactively for extraordinary (and verifiable) reasons but then only when no final exam was taken. Fiction: When I drop a class after the week 4 deadline, I will get a 'W' on my transcript. Fact: No, you get a notation of 'class dropped week _' on your transcript, just below the class. The actual week you drop is inserted and a $13 fee will be charged to your BAR statement. UCLA does not issue W's- never has, never will.
